International Day of Charity
International Day of Charity is observed annually on September 5th and is a day designated by the United Nations to promote and recognise the importance of charitable activities. At PKF Smith Cooper, we are proud to give back to our communities by charity fundraising and volunteering our time to help those that need it most, whether it’s through firm organised initiatives or supporting our colleagues in their own activities.
2025 has already been a busy year for our team, with team members supporting a range of local and national causes that matter to them – take a look below at what we’ve been up to!

Volunteering at Rainbows Hospice and Ashbourne Animal Shelter
Two groups from our Nottingham office spent a day each at Rainbows Hospice in Loughbourough, helping around the grounds with weeding and painting benches. Both days also included a tour of the hospice facilities so our team members could find out more about the brilliant work they do.
A couple of weeks later, team members from our Derby and Ashbourne offices spent the day gardening and helping out at Ashbourne Animal Shelter.

Charity walks, runs and cycles
On 19th July Georgie Atherton (Audit, Nottingham) hiked 26 miles around the Peak District in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Tom Robinson (Audit, Birmingham) completed the North Coast 500 - 6 gruelling days of cycling, an average of 86-miles per day, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support & The Primrose Unit, located at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove.
Josh Stanley (Business Services, Nottingham) hiked the length of the Peak District totalling 100Km. Starting in Marsden and ending in Ashbourne, the hike raised money for Prostate Cancer UK and MIND UK.
PKF Infuse supporting the Digital Poverty Alliance
The Digital Poverty Alliance is an independent charity that is working towards ending digital poverty by 2030. They currently rely on financial donations and old devices to donate to those in need.
PKF Infuse are currently donating old, wiped and cleaned laptops and tech equipment to the Digital Poverty Alliance for them to facilitate internet access to those who need it most. The aim is to digitally enable people to live and work, grow and flourish and embrace the opportunities available.
Charity initiatives coming up
We’ve also got a lot planned for the rest of the year, all in support of Rainbows Hospice, our 2025 charity of the year.

Robin Hood Half Marathon - Team members from across our offices are taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon - a 21Km run past some of Nottingham’s best known sights including Nottingham Castle, the Robin Hood Statue, through the Park Estate and Wollaton Park.
Run to the Sea - Bournemouth Ultra Marathon - On 4th October, JP (Systems & Data Developer, PKF Infuse) will be running the Bournemouth Ultra Marathon - a 50Km course along coastal paths and forest trails.
Abseil - On October 4th, Emma O’Brien and Emma Lesley from our People team will be doing a thrilling 212ft abseil down Derby Cathedral.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our team members and charity efforts so far.
