Taking strides for mental health: Our 100 Miles in March challenge
During March, 39 of our team members embarked on a journey. Armed with determination and a collective purpose, we took on the 100 Miles in March challenge set by the charity Mind.
The challenge was simple yet impactful: walk, jog, run, or wheel a total of 100 miles throughout the month of March. Whether it meant a daily 3-mile stroll or a more ambitious distance every few days, each person could personalise their challenge.
The team laced up their trainers and set forth on their individual paths. We tracked our progress, celebrated milestones, and cheered each other on through the challenge’s Teams chat.
Some of the highlights of the Teams chat were:
Ian Taylor, Technical Training Mentor (Infuse) – completed his 100 miles on day 7! And pushed to 200 miles by day 17! He did a combination of walking and cycling. Ian was also a positive influence on us all encouraging us to get out there and posting suggestions of what we could do.
Jo Stapleton, Sage 200 Account Manager (PKF SCS) – wins the award for most dramatic exit to the challenge. She managed 6 miles then broke her ankle ending up in an ankle operation! We hope you get better soon Jo!
Rob Marshall, Operations Manager (Infuse) – a great contributor to the group chat and kept us all accountable.
Ben Jones, Senior Payroll Adviser (PKF SC) - seemed reluctant to join the challenge initially (the Payroll team insisted he join!) but did some travelling to complete his miles - Carsington Water, Castleton and Meltham to name a few of his destinations.
Why did we get involved? The statistics are sobering: in the UK, 1 in 4 individuals will experience a mental health problem this year. Mind’s vital work ensures that no one faces these struggles alone. By participating in the 100 Miles in March challenge, we joined thousands of others who have helped raised awareness of their amazing work.
Although the challenge has now finished, we have our fabulous Mental Health First Aiders who provide support to our team members through non-judgemental and confidential listening, as well as signposting to further help.
