Assistant Management Accountant

Salary: Dependant on experience + Study Support (AAT/ACA/ACCA/CIMA)

The firm has ambitious growth plans to double in size over the next five years, and this role will be crucial in how the internal finance team contributes to those plans. With a strong emphasis on internal development, this position is ideal for someone looking to expand their knowledge and become a fully qualified accountant. You will report directly to the company’s Management Accountant and assist him with the three other group companies.
As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will be pivotal in preparing management accounts and analysing accounting information, all while ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliations. Your role involves entering transactional data and journal entries into the accounting software for both the main company and its subsidiaries. You'll also actively participate in the annual budgeting process and support the preparation of statutory accounts and audits. This position offers the chance to engage in various ad hoc projects alongside the Finance and Admin team.
The ideal candidate should have experience in preparing management accounts, performing balance sheet reconciliations, analysing financial information, and demonstrating strong Excel skills. Familiarity with Sage software is a plus!
The important work you will be doing:
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly flash Profit and Loss (P&L) statement and quarterly management accounts, including managing accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
- Responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheets, and conducting variance analysis.
- Support the budget preparation process.
- Participate in the annual budget and statutory accounts/audit processes.
- Oversight of client account reconciliations and reporting.
- Manage intercompany balances.
- Provide support to the Management Accountant and the Finance and Admin team as needed, and address staff inquiries.
The skills and experience you will bring:
- The ideal candidate has completed their AAT qualification.
- They should have previous experience in preparing management accounts, including accruals and prepayments.
- A strong understanding of Excel, such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and SUMIFS, is essential.
- Excellent communication skills are also required.
